Mário Carvalho Fernandes, CFA, was born in Porto on 18 April 1977. Married and has a son.

He graduated in Economics from the University of Porto in 2000 and completed his Master’s in Modeling, Data Analysis and Decision Support Systems at the School of Economics of Porto in 2003. Between 2000 and 2003, he worked as research assistant at the Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science Lab of the University of Porto, working on projects for the application of the artificial intelligence algorithm in the fields of economics and management, with particular emphasis on corporate finance and financial markets.

Between 2003 and 2007, he worked as market analyst in the Strategic Marketing and Internal Audit Department of the General-Directorate at Portgás, currently EDP Gás. Between 2007 and 2019, he worked as financial analyst and portfolio manager at BPI and BPI Asset Management, where he co-managed profiled asset allocation strategies in the form of unit-link insurance, investment funds and discretionary management accounts.

He is currently Administrator at Banco Carregosa, having joined the institution in January 2019 as Investment Director. In January 2020, he was appointed Chief Investment Officer of the Bank.
