He has a Bachelor degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto, and an MBA in 2003 from Escola de Gestão do Porto (EGP), now know as the Porto Business School.  

Having begun his career in 1989, he has an extensive professional background in finance, particularly banking, project management and consulting, investment and capital markets.

He is currently CEO of Banco Carregosa, which he joined in 2012.

Francisco Oliveira Fernandes is also member of the Supervisory Board of APB - Associação Portuguesa de Bancos (Association of Portuguese Banks), on which he represents Banco Carregosa.
